Is my property suitable for solar panels?
We design and tailor our installations entirely on your property and so make the most efficient use of the roof space available.
When considering investing in solar panels, you need to consider the potential of your roof. The ideal conditions for the position of solar panels are:
- A roof pitch of between 30 – 45 degrees
- A south/southeast/southwest facing roof
- No surface shading, such as overhang from nearby trees or buildings
If your are unsure whether your roof will be suitable for solar panels, please do not hesitated to contact us and we will be very happy to visit you to discuss and provide you with a personalised illustration.
System sizes
GSE solar systems uses various different panels depending upon the roof space available. A typical 235Wp panel measures 1660mm x 1000mm and an average size roof should accommodate a 10 panel system.
| No. of panels | kWp | Size m2 |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 1.5 | 10 |
| 8 | 2 | 13.2 |
| 10 | 2.5 | 16.4 |
| 12 | 3 | 19.7 |
| 14 | 3.5 | 23 |
| 16 | 4 | 26.3 |
The panels can be installed on either rails above the roof tiles or alternatively the tiles can be removed and the panels flushed with the roof.
It is also possible for the panels to be installed on a flat roof using an a-frame or even in an area of garden land.
Planning
Planning permission may be required before solar panels can be installed on your roof. In particular, when your home is within a conservation area, is a listed building or if the panels are to be installed where they are visible from the road. Your local authority will be able to tell you whether planning is required.
